There was once a time in the world of sport, when the people at the top of their game played their sport for the love of it and with passion, craving the adulation of their fans and wanting nothing more than to pull on that shirt and show what they can do. These days though, it does not seem to matter which sport you look at, all anyone seems to care about anymore is money, especially when it comes to soccer.
Nothing proves this more than what has been going on with China recently, with a huge amount of top players heading to play there, showing that they care more about the money than anything else. There is a huge amount of money on offer in the Chinese league, but the quality of football there is simply not good enough, while most matches are played in front of half full stadiums.
So, with there being talk of the possibility of one of these mega rich Chinese clubs being able to offer a play £1m a week in wages, are we going to see the biggest and best players on the planet moving there? There has been some talk that Cristiano Ronaldo turned down a move to China a few weeks back but, with the amount of money these Chinese teams have on offer, could we see the best player in the world moving to China in the Summer?
At the age of 31, you could argue that Cristiano Ronaldo is still in his prime and has a few more years left at the very top of the game, before wanting to cash in on one last huge payday. Ronaldo seems to be one of those players who wants to play against the best players in the world, so moving to China would surely not even be a consideration. With that said, money talks, so you really cannot rule anything out.
