Danica Patrick likely was not arguing about dinner plans on Sunday night after the race car incident that occurred during the closing laps of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series race at Chicagoland Speedway. The gorgeous race car driver during the race smashed her car inadvertently into that of her boyfriend, fellow race car driver Ricky Stenhouse which impacted his race signficantly. She blamed her 'spotter' for not letting her know that there was a car 'above' her which would impede her trying to improve her position on the track.
One of the challenges that athletes have when they participate in the same sport as their partners is that sometimes there will be situations where one's actions might imperil the fortunes of the other and in the high-stakes game of professional race car driving this is the norm but it still likely does not make the aftermath any easier.
Race car fanatics are watching the situation with great interest because to be a great race car driver which Danica Patrick has the potential to be a driver must have a very 'short' memory and understand that often they will 'step' on toes. Usually the toes that a driver might 'step' on are rival race drivers with whom they may be friends but are not involved with 'intimately'. That is not the situation for Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse and it is not the first time they have smashed into one another on the racetrack.
She stated afterwards in interviews that she had explained the situation to her boyfriend and they "were good" but one wonders how the 'spotter' she threw under the bus by blaming them for not alerting her to the potential of an accident feels as she made it clear she was apologizing because of the mistake of one of her team members.
Mixing work and personal relationships is always a challenge as Danica Patrick is finding but one suspects that they will make it work even though some fans suspect that after smashing the race car of her boyfriends at Chicagoland she likely let him choose where they went for dinner after the race.
