Two-time national championship winner Ashley Wagner is a skater that isn’t always remembered for her achievements. Four years ago, the champ missed the cut for the Vancouver Olympics by 4.08 points. The audience favorite wasn’t discouraged, instead she used the time to perfect her career.
The skater is now preparing for the Olympic trials in Boston. Her dream has always been to skate in the Olympics, but now she is approaching that dream with a more realistic attitude. She has said that she has a plan and is more mature than she was at the trials four years ago.
Not only has she not given up on her dream to skate for America, she also wants to bring home a medal. The U.S. hasn’t won a skating medal since 2006, and Wagner hopes to end that trend. In 2010, the women’s division failed to qualify for three spots. Wagner had just finished third in Nationals at the time, which is still a huge achievement.
Since then, everything Wagner has done in the rink has been to help secure the spot for the Olympics. Last year, Wagner and Gracie Gold helped to secure the U.S. spots at the World Figure Skating Championships. She continues to practice and let her shortcomings fuel her, which continues to make her a favorite at every event.
