There has been a huge amount of talk about the sexism that takes place in Hollywood these days and, as well as a lot of stars complaining about the fact that actresses do not get as good roles as actors, there is also an ongoing debate about the wage disparity that also takes place in the acting industry.
We have already heard from a lot of top Hollywood movie stars, insisting that the wage gap between what actors earn in Hollywood, compared to what the actresses are getting is far too big. Now, actress Gwyneth Paltrow has added her voice to the debate, citing her Iron Man co-star and good friend Robert Downey Jr. as her example of what is wrong with the pay in Hollywood today.
During a recent chat with Variety, Paltrow explained, "Your salary is a way to quantify what you’re worth. If men are being paid a lot more for doing the same thing, it feels s**tty. Look, nobody is worth the money that Robert Downey, Jr. is worth," she contends, "but if I told you the disparity, you would probably be surprised."
To give you a bit of a better understanding of what Gwyneth Paltrow is talking about, it was reported by Forbes that Gwyneth Paltrow earned around $9m for the last year, while Robert Downey Jr. raked in a massive $80m, making him the highest paid star in Hollywood. This is a very huge difference and you can easily see why so many actresses are upset about the wage disparity in Hollywood.
Do you think women will ever get paid as much as men in the movie business?
