The rap music scene has always been one that sees a sort of bragging taking place, with rappers writing about things such as money, women and anything else they choose to brag about. This has clearly not sat too well with Kid Cudi, who has now spoken out to criticise the rap music that is being made these days.
Kid Cudi says that rap music needs to develop, progress and improve in order to stop holding back the industry and black people in general. These remarks have clearly touched a nerve with Meek Mill, who has now hit back at Kid Cudi insisting that people should be allowed to rap about whatever they want to.
Meek Mill issued a statement which said, "!I seen Kid Cudi say 'they rap about money, cars, hoes and all this stuff.' I’m like, bro, we don’t tell y’all what to rap about. If he choose to rap about sniffing coke, I ain’t gonna say nothing about him rapping about that. If J. Cole wanna rap about college, I might want to hear the experience of college. I’ve never been to college… Rap is rap."
The statement continued, "It’s about how you putting them words together, how you making them flows sound on that beat, and how you making good music. You can’t say 2Pac your favorite rapper and you ain’t trying to hear nobody talk about the streets, Jay Z. You can’t say it. What is y’all saying? I don’t understand it."
Clearly there is a differing of opinions here and it will be interesting to see if Kid Cudi will respond to the Meek Mill statement. In the meantime though, you can listen to what Meek Mill had to say in his interview below.
