Over the years there have been a number of movie stars who have turned down roles, only to see those roles go on to be hugely successful for the actors who accepted them. Here, we are going to take a look at Michelle Pfeiffer, Ewan McGregor and Will Smith, who have all turned down movies that went on to be successful.
Michelle Pfeiffer has put in some impressive performances over the years and has starred in some very successful movies. However, Michelle was offered the role of Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs but turned it down due to the violent storyline. The role ended up going to Jodie Foster and was a big hit.
While Ewan McGregor did receive a pretty decent pay packet for the Star Wars trilogy he was in, as well as getting to say that he is a Jedi Knight, he did have to turn down another big movie role. Ewan was offered the role of Neo in the Matrix movies but decided that he would rather be in Star Wars. The role of Neo then went to Keanu Reeves, in possibly his biggest role to date.
Will Smith has turned down a few roles over the years but, most recently, he turned down the chance to play the titular character in the Quentin Tarantino movie Django Unchained. Will said that he did not feel like the character was the lead role, so Jamie Foxx was cast in his place. Django Unchained went on to be a hugely successful movie.
Other stars who turned down some big movie roles include Mel Gibson as Maximus in Gladiator, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Cher in Clueless and Matthew McConaughey as Jack in Titanic, to name just a few.
