When it was announced that the Fifty Shades of Grey novel was being adapted for the big screen, there were plenty of directors names being thrown around, before it was finally announced that Sam Taylor-Johnson would direct the movie. Unfortunately for the director, things did not exactly go great during the project, but Sam has been reminiscing about her time on the film, admitting that she has suffered set backs in her career before, as well as talking briefly about her new Netflix series Gypsy.

During a recent interview with Stylist magazine, Taylor-Johnson shared, "It's no secret. ['Fifty Shades'] was a rough ride so I needed to take a breather and refocus because it knocked me off a bit. I've been working in the studio making new artwork ... a whole new body of work, photography, collage."
She added, "I have been trying to work on a new self-portrait series - they've always been about placing myself in a certain place in my life or my environment. And then [directing] 'Gypsy'. I've had my fair share of knocks and getting back up again. It's processing what you've been through and making a plan of how you don't go through it again."

As for the Fifty Shades movie franchise, after Sam Taylor-Johnson decided not to return to direct Fifty Shades Darker, James Foley took over and has returned to direct the third and final instalment, Fifty Shades Freed, which has completed shooting, and is set to hit the big screen on February 9, 2018 in both the US and the UK.
