For some reason or another, there has always been a bit of a trend in Hollywood, of taking a classic movie and deciding to give it a sequel, decades after the original movie was released, and in most of these cases the sequel flops and does not manage to live up to the expectations of the fans. So it really is surprising that there are still so many classic 80s movies that are getting a sequel made, so long after the first film hit the big screen.
Back in 1986 we got the release of the hugely popular fighter pilot movie Top Gun, which fans have been calling for a sequel to ever since. There have been so may occasions when it has been claimed that we are going to get a Top Gun sequel but, after over 30 years of waiting we were begin to lose hope, and interest to be honest. Now though, Tom Cruise has spoken out about the project and Tom has insisted that Top Gun 2 is definitely going to happen.
Cruise was a guest on the Australian breakfast show Sunrise, when he stated, "It's true. I'm gonna start filming it probably in the next year. It's happening. It's definitely happening." We have heard it all before so we are not going to hold our breath on this one.
If we do actually get a Top Gun 2, then we are looking forward to seeing which of the other original characters will appear in the sequel. It is widely expected that Val Kilmer will return as Iceman, but we are seriously hoping that Kelly McGillis will return as Charlie Blackwood. We guess we are all just going to have to wait and see whether production does ever actually take place.
