There is going to come a time in the not too distant future, when Hollywood actor Robert Downey Jr. decides to call it a day as Tony Stark aka Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will leave them with a very big space to fill. When that time comes, Marvel will then have to then decide whether to retire the character from the big screen, or replace Robert with a new actor filling the suit.
Well, Jon Favreau has been talking about the possibility of Robert Downey Jr. stepping down from the role, giving his views on what he feels should happen with the character. While some would love to see Iron Man continue under a new actor, Jon has claimed that it would not feel right and he could not see it working.
Favreau explained, "I can’t imagine how they could but that doesn’t mean that they can’t. I just can’t wrap my head around that one. To me he’s the one element that has unified all of it, and I think kept a consistent tone, and the integrity of his acting ability and his talent really works wonderfully synergistically with the Marvel universe. I think that his personality is something which helps define it. That being said, nothing would surprise me, but for me it would be a hard pill to swallow and big shoes to fill."
We already know that we are going to see Robert Downey Jr. making a cameo appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming, while he is also expected to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, so we still have him for a while yet. It will definitely be interesting to see what does happen with Iron Man once Robert does decide to step down!
